Gosamaru, who played an important role in establishing Ryukyu Kingdom back in the history, spent his childhood in this “gusuku,” a castle. Discoveries from this site includes Chinese potteries, weapons and toys from 14th to early 15th centuries. A folklore tells that people carried stones by hand from stone walls of Yamada gusuku to Zakimi gusuku when he built a new castle. Registered in 2008 as the 32nd designated national site in the prefecture.
